School Meals are Healthy Meals!
Fulton County School Nutrition Program meals are kid-friendly and nutritionally sound. Menus and standardized recipes are planned by Registered Dietitians and certified school nutrition experts to meet healthier meal requir​em​ents, as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. Meal pattern standards, based on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, include:
  • Limiting calories based on age to ensure proper portion size;
  • Ensuring students select a fruit or vegetable serving with every meal;
  • Offering weekly servings of dark green and orange/red vegetables
  • Increasing the offerings of whole grain-rich foods;
  • Offering only skim and 1% milk choices; and​
  • Restricting saturated fat, trans fat and sodium

  • Age-appropriate calories & portion sizes
  • <10% calories from saturated fat
  • ZERO grams trans fat

What's for Breakfast?
Daily Breakfast Menus are planned according to USDA guidelines and offer 4 food groups. Students select daily from:
  • Hot and cold entree​ options
  • Fresh fruit & 100% fruit ju​​ice
  • 4 milk choices: 1%, Skim, Skim Chocolate, Skim Strawberry

What's for Lunch?
Daily Lunch Menus are planned according to USDA guidelines and offer 5 food groups. Students select daily from:​​
  • Hot and cold entree options
  • Daily vegetarian entrée options
  • At least 2 veggie sides, including daily fresh veggies!
  • At least 2 fruit sides, including daily fresh fruit!
  • 4 milk choices: 1%, Skim, Skim Chocolate, Skim Strawberry

Students must take at least 3 of the 5 offered food groups, one of which must be a fruit or vegetable.
A student may select all 5 food groups for a more balance meal

YES! The Fulton County Schools Nutrition Program has participated in the National Farm to School Initiative since 2011, offering all students access to locally and regionally grown fresh produce! What is 'Smart Snac​ks in Schools​'?
USDA recently published practical, science-based nutrition standards, required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, for snack foods and beverages sold to children at school during the school day, to be effective July 1, 2014. The USDA rules apply to a la carte, school stores, vending, and fundraisers sold to students during the school day. To find the standards online, simply go to http://www.regulations.gov and search by the docket number FNS-2011-0019, or you may type in the name of the rule "Nutrition Standards for All Foods."
